Jesus on the Cross

Dark clouds brooded over a hill called Golgotha outside the city walls of Jerusalem, Jesus, who had been welcomed by cheers and exultations by the citizens of Jerusalem, now hung upon a Roman cross as many watched. Some onlookers gazed in sorrow and confusion others in hatred and revulsion. After hours of agony, Yeshua bar Yusef lifted His head and cried out a single Greek word: “τετέλεσται!” (John 19:30). Translated as “It is finished,” these final words of Christ echo throughout the ages, encapsulating a grand mystery and a powerful truth.

But what was truly accomplished on the cross, and what does it mean for believers today? If Christ completed the work, then what remains for us to do in response? These questions invite us into the depths of one of Scripture’s greatest revelations. If the work of redemption has indeed been accomplished, how then shall we live?
