It was a cold night in Bethlehem when a baby’s cry pierced the silence, announcing the arrival of the Savior of the world. Wrapped in the swaddling cloths (meant for the sacrificial lambs) and lying in the manger (meant for feeding those lambs), Jesus, the Word made flesh, entered into human history. The angels proclaimed His birth to shepherds, declaring, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill toward men” (Luke 2:14). Yet, what made this moment so extraordinary was the dual purpose behind it. Jesus came to both bring salvation (sacrifice) and to equip us with the tools we need for spiritual victory (food) —one of which is the Sword of the Spirit.
But how does the Christmas Spirit connect with the Sword of the Spirit described in Ephesians 6? What lessons can we learn from the incarnation of Christ that empower us to choose the Spirit over the flesh this Christmas season?
